I created the layout, design and info graphics, for a New York Times book review authored by Bill Gates in July 2013. The book, Harvesting the Biosphere, written by Vaclav Smil and seeks to enlighten the reader about the cost of modern farming on the biosphere. 

The online publication The Verge  said in their article about the review "Gates has lavished his review with an elaborate, interactive layout filled with infographics, video interviews, and flashy scrolling effects."

This screen printed poster promoted Austin, Texas band, The Woodenbirds June 23rd Seattle show at the Sunset Tavern. The design is inspired by the title song on the recent "Two Matchsticks" Album.

The University of Washington asked DNA to create a concept and graphic treatment for the 1300 ft long 8 ft tall walls that would be erected to contain the construction of the Sound Transit Station near Husky stadium. They envisioned using the wall for departmental promotions adorned with logos and photos and asked if we could come up with anything better. I was the AD/Designer on this project and worked with Tom Gilmartin, creative director, and Joe Gerlitz, writer, to come up with ideas. We were able to convince the client that rather than use the wall as a canvas solely to promote the university, the wall could be a used more like a gift to the community during this disruptive time. With this in mind, the "Great Wall of Us" photo booth concept was the chosen solution.

During UW sports events and other UW activities, a mobile photo booth would be there to collect photos from fans, community members and anyone else interested in having their likeness posted on the "Great Wall of Us". Initially the university wanted to hire a professional photographer to re-create "photo-booth-like" portraits but we convinced them that only true way to capture the whimsey and authenticity of a photo-booth picture was to use an actual photo-booth. The wall was a great success and up until 2016, when the UW station was finally unveiled, it could be viewed while traveling along Montlake Blvd. near Husky stadium.

I created the layout and design for this scrolling interactive timeline which currently lives on the GatesNotes website.

The timeline serves as a living document of important milestones in the life and career of Bill Gates. We begin when Bill was in grade school and conclude with his current work at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Anu Horsman, the Art Director at BGC3 provided me copy and timeline items and managed the project which was developed and animated by an outside firm. We wanted the timeline to evoke authentic history while at the same time look and feel visually fresh and new. The juxtaposition of mottled historic photography, a bright color palette and interesting animation accomplished our goals.

In March of 2015, as an extension of Bill Gate's TED talk, the Vancouver Convention center hosted an experience that replicated components of an Ebola field hospital. Attendees were invited to experience firsthand what is involved in the painstaking process of suiting up (donning) and peeling off (doffing) protective gear in order to treat someone with Ebola. The Gatesnotes hired me to design graphics for the walls of this exhibition. We wanted to create a visually bold experience that communicated the gravity of the issue. I was provided photographs and quotes from Ebola care givers in the field. The use of a simplified color palette and black and white photography worked well to accomplish our goals.

This is an invitation to a private "Behind the Lens" event hosted by Getty Images CEO, Jonathan Klein on behalf of Media Manager, a new product for Getty Images. My first challenge was to create a clear hierarchy of information. My second challenge was to create something that looked formal and at the same time showcased the often times violent photography of Chris Hondros.
